A MRF’s last chance line possesses endless amounts of value. The data we see on a facility’s last chance line shows the immense amount of money MRFs are losing from their last chance line; in fact, we’ve seen recycling facilities incur annual losses ranging from $200k to millions of dollars. By implementing AI and robotics, EverestLabs can help your facility save hundreds of thousands of dollars by exponentially increasing your plant’s material recovery and revenue from your last chance line.

Placing EverestLabs artificial intelligence on your last chance line can provide your facility with data that will help you understand how your recycling plant processes material and how your equipment is running. With RecycleOS AI and data, we can help your plant:

  • Understand the composition and value of materials being lost to landfill
  • Measure material recovery rates and estimate landfill costs
  • Perform staff optimization and pick prioritization using analytics
    • RecycleOS can make recommendations on material prioritization in a market with commodity pricing fluctuating and a constant rise in landfill costs
  • Automate material auditing to meet municipal or legislative requirements

All of this data is put into customizable dashboards that can be accessed at any time by our customers. You can use this data to make operational improvements throughout your recycling plant to increase recovery. You can also implement EverestLabs AI and robotics to capture those valuable recyclables otherwise heading to landfill. This is what one of the largest MRFs in the US decided to do.

This MRF wanted to learn how much value they were losing via their inclined last chance belt. They didn’t have the staff to recover valuable commodities on their difficult-to-access 25-degree belt. This customer decided to implement RecycleOS AI on their last chance line to gain detailed information about the commodities being sent to landfill. Once they knew how much money they were losing, they deployed two EverestLabs’ recycling robots in a world-first configuration.

This innovative approach using recycling automation resulted in the recovery of 1.6 million containers, valued at $420,000 annually. Furthermore, the initiative identified potential revenue and savings exceeding $2 million while also achieving substantial environmental benefits, including the avoidance of 180 metric tons of CO2 equivalent emissions and the conservation of 1.5 million kilowatt-hours of energy.

Like the majority of our customers, this MRF received a payback on their recycling robots within a few months based on hard labor cost savings alone. As a result, the money they received from increased material recovery and decreased landfill fees went directly into their pockets.
