After having it for just over a month, they were stunned to learn just how much money and material they were losing to the landfill. In fact, they found they were losing $43,000 monthly. By having this real-time data and visibility of what was going through the last chance line, their Plant General Manager was able to make data-driven decisions on what needed to be optimized upstream. They systematically adjusted eddy current separator and optical sorter settings and placed a manual sorter in the aluminum line after the optical sorter.
After the changes, that number went down to $15,000 and they recovered $28,300 in those materials per month, $336,000 per year.
With material conditions constantly evolving, access to data on an ongoing basis has been proven invaluable. This data helps them continually optimize their machinery, enabling them to be more profitable and divert what would go to landfill back in the circular economy.
